We love using essential oils to enrich the spirit of all the various holidays, and with St. Patrick’s Day right around the corner, we thought we would share some of our favorite green essential oils for St. Patrick's day and some recipes to help evoke the verdant beauty and enchanting splendor of the Emerald Isles, no matter where you are. Whether you enjoy the beautiful, virescent shamrocks, long to find a leprechaun’s pot of gold at the end of a rainbow, or hope to cultivate a little ‘luck of the Irish’, these beautiful essential oils are perfect for conjuring up a little St. Patrick’s Day magic. They’re also great for boosting your spirit and ushering in brightness and light, which is so often needed this time of year!
Green Essential Oils for St. Patrick’s DaySt. Patrick’s Day is a wonderful time to celebrate the renewal of nature. As winter comes to a close and spring approaches, life returns to the land around us. Soon, everything will turn from gray and brown to lush shades of green. Essential oils made from rich green plants and bright green fruits can help promote that sense of renewal and revitalization in body, mind, and spirit. These ‘green’ oils are so refreshing and uplifting, you just might feel like you have found that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow! Here are a few of our favorite essential oils for St. Patrick’s Day:
Ocimum basilicum ct Linalool This sweet, herbaceous essential oil can help improve motivation, strengthen self-confidence, and increase mental clarity. It’s a wonderful choice for blends to help relax muscle spasms and tension, reduce minor pain and inflammation, as well as reduce the presence of unwanted bacteria and fungal activity. Basil can even help ease stress and tension headaches.
2. Bergamot Oil
Citrus bergamia This citrusy, sweet, herbaceous essential oil is incredibly uplifting, restorative, and calming. It can help diffuse feelings of anger or frustration and is one of our favorite oils for helping manage situational anxiety and depression as well as for promoting restful sleep. Bergamot is also an excellent choice for helping ease muscle spasms.
Juniperus virginiana This woodsy, earthy essential oil is often used in blends to help manage pain and inflammation as well as assist with clearing lung congestion. When facing challenging situations, Cedarwood encourages perseverance and confidence and promotes grounding. It is also a lovely choice when looking to reduce anxiety and depression.
Coriandrum sativum This herbaceous, fruity, spicy essential oil is incredibly balancing and calming, offering much-needed support for an overstressed system. This lovely oil— derived from the seeds of the plant commonly known as cilantro— encourages mental clarity and can help clear foggy thinking and blocked mental energy. It is useful in blends for helping ease stress headaches, reduce pain, eliminate microbes, and stimulate the immune system.
5. Cypress Oil
Cupressus sempervirens This woodsy, smoky, balsamic essential oil is highly purifying for both the physical and emotional terrains. Cypress encourages healthy circulation and reduces the presence of unwanted bacteria. It can also help ease muscle spasms, such as spasmodic coughing caused by minor asthma attacks. Energetically, cypress oil can help calm excessive worrying, usher in peace when feeling overwhelmed, bring courage during traumatic events, and help ease painful transitions relating to loss.
6. Lime Oil
Citrus aurantifolia This sweet, sparkling, fruity essential oil— distilled from the green rinds of fresh, juicy, ripe limes— is incredibly refreshing and uplifting. Lime brings sunshine and light to the mind, body, and spirit, making it perfect for celebrating St. Patrick’s Day. Lime oil also makes a lovely tonic for the digestive system. Lime can purify unwanted microbial activity and help remove excess oil from the skin, making it useful in blends for treating acne.
Mentha spicata The bright green leaves of the common mint plant, also known as garden mint, create an essential oil that is fresh, crisp, and deliciously minty. Spearmint refreshes and awakens. It stimulates mental clarity and can help promote and encourage a more positive outlook on life. Spearmint is a popular choice for helping support a healthy digestive system, especially when feeling nauseous. We also reach for spearmint oil when needing to ease muscle spasms, manage pain and inflammation, relieve lung congestion during a cold or flu, boost the immune system, and reduce unwanted microbial activity.

How to Use Essential Oils for St. Patrick’s Day
There are many fun, effective ways to use essential oils for the holidays. Hopefully, these ideas will help get you started. - In a DiffuserFill an entire room with your favorite aromas to enhance the desired ambiance as well as take advantage of all the therapeutic benefits of the essential oils. For a small diffuser, use 4-6 total drops of essential oil. For a large diffuser, use 8-10 drops.
- In an Inhaler
Personal inhalers let you carry your favorite blend with you wherever you go. Place 15-18 drops on a small cotton wick or 18-21 for a large cotton wick. (Only 5-12 drops for children!)
- Themed Diffuser Pins or Jewelry
Make a cute little shamrock diffuser pin using green felt or a St. Patrick’s Day charm bracelet with lava beads to diffuse your favorite essential oils. There are so many possibilities! A little goes a long way with essential oils, so use judiciously. A drop or two should suffice.
- Scented Decorations
Add a few drops of your favorite green essential oils to your St. Patrick’s Day decorations to give them that extra special touch.
- Salt Scrub/Bath Salts
Pamper yourself with a fun, rejuvenating salt scrub. Makes great gifts, too!
- Room Sprays
Add a few drops of essential oil to a hydrosol, shake well, and spritz around a room for a beautiful, therapeutic way to liven-up your favorite spaces and evoke that St. Patrick’s Day feel.
- DIY Beeswax Candles
Make your own green, St. Patrick’s Day candles using beeswax and essential oils. 4 Essential Oil Recipes for St. Patrick's Day
A minty and refreshing salt scrub to wake up the senses! Great as a morning pick me up!
- 20 drops of Lime Oil
- 12 drops of Spearmint Oil
- 8 drops of Basil Sweet Oil
- 4 oz of Pink Himalayan Salt (Fine)
- 4 oz of Pink Himalayan Salt (Small)
- 1.5 oz. of Jojoba Oil
- 0.5 oz. of Coconut Oil
- 1 - 16 oz. PET Jars - Large
- Measure out 4 oz of fine grain salt and 4 oz of the small grain salt and place in 16 oz jar.
- Measure out the Jojoba and Coconut oils and add to the salt.
- Drop in the essentials oils one by one.
- Stir well to combine ingredients.
- Cap the jar.
Note: For sensitive skin, may use half sugar half salt, or all sugar. Coconut Oil will become solid below 75 degrees. If this is the case, melt in a double boiler. You can also use a glass pyrex measuring cup and place it in a pot of water over low heat on the stove.
This spicy, citrus diffuser blend helps bring balance to an overactive mind and body. Plus it's a fun diffuser blend for St. Patrick's Day!
- 4 drops of Bergamot Oil
- 2 drops of Cypress Oil
- 2 drops of Coriander Oil
- 1 - Diffuser - Spa Vapor 2.0
- Fill your diffuser up to the water line. Depending on the diffuser, tap or distilled water may be used. Make sure to look at the manufacturer's suggestion.
- Drop the essential oils one by one into the diffuser.
- Turn on and enjoy!
Note: For a smaller space such as a bedroom or bathroom, cut recipe in half.
This uplifting, yet grounding inhaler blend is perfect for when one is feeling uptight and antsy!
- Dissasemble your personal inhaler.
- Add the essential oils to the cotton wick of your personal inhaler.
- Place the cotton wick inside the inhaler and place end cap in the bottom (may take a little muscle).
- Sniff away!
Note: May cut the recipe into 3rds for children 5 years of age and older.
This balancing room and linen spray helps fight situational anxiety and relieves tension by ushering a sense of calm.
- 100 mls of Lavender Hydrosol Artisan
- 25 drops of Bergamot Oil
- 20 drops of Cypress Oil
- 10 drops of Spearmint Oil
- Add the essential oils one by one directly into the Lavender hydrosol.
- Cap the hydrosol bottle.
- Shake well to blend.
