Arnica Infused Olive Oil from Aromatics

Arnica Infused Olive Oil

Arnica cordifolia

Description

This Arnica (Heartleaf Arnica) infused oil is made on site by Aromatics International. The Arnica flowers we use in this oil are a wild perennial, growing 1 to 3 feet tall. We find them among subalpine conifers and often times Balsamroot. These Arnica flowers grow in patches and make for a lovely sea of yellow that is so healing for the soul!

Our Arnica oil is infused into cold pressed organic olive oil and has a gorgeous golden color! This oil is processed in the sun over an 8-week period. We use our own wild-crafted, freshly picked flowers in this infusion.

Arnica is often applied externally on unbroken skin to treat sore muscles and joints as well as bruising and sprains and strains. Try making a salve for arthritic conditions. Arnica is a rubefacient meaning it does its work by bringing more blood to the injured area causing a slight irritation. Below is a recipe for making a salve:

General Salve:

Melt 1/4 ounce of beeswax in 1/2 ounce of jojoba oil. When almost melted, add 1.5 ounces of arnica oil. When melted, remove from heat (double boiler) and add essential oils if desired such as Lavender (20 drops) and Helichrysum italicum (20 drops). Pour into small 1/2 ounce size PET jars and keep handy for small emergencies.

When using Arnica for the treatment of deep bruising, we like blending it with essential oils of German Chamomile and Balsam Poplar. The late Michael Moore, prominent American herbologist, stated that Arnica works by stimulating and dilating blood vessels, particularly the specialized capillaries that control whether blood is piped into the small peripheral capillary beds or is shunted over to small veins, bypassing more widespread blood dispersal. Michael also states that Arnica does not have the immediate anesthesia effect of menthol but takes a few hours or overnight in aiding the congestion that results from a bruise or sprain.

Product Q&A
Why is there not a pure essential Arnica oil? And will Aromatics International sell the pure oil?
Although many consider the EO to be to toxic, arnica is very beneficial in an infusion. More research is needed on safety.
