Juniper Berry

Juniperus communis

Description

Our certified organic juniper berry essential oil is steam distilled from the fruit of an evergreen tree cultivated in forested regions of Bulgaria. One of our favorite ways of using this essential oil is in a massage blend to help improve circulation and possibly reduce fluid retention.

The stunning blue berries of the Juniperus communi tree create a piney, woodsy, resinous essential oil. Along with helping to improve circulation and reduce fluid retention, juniper essential oil is a popular choice when looking to improve lymph congestion and lung function. This essential oil is also useful when wanting to help with minor pain and inflammation management as well as to reduce the presence of unwanted bacteria and fungus. A powerful immune support, this is a lovely oil to use in cleaning products. Emotionally and energetically, juniper essential oil is often chosen to cleanse and protect the mind and spirit. It can provide emotional fortitude when one is overwhelmed or worried and usher in peace and comfort during trying moments.

Safety + Shelf Life

Non-toxic, though it may cause skin irritation or sensitization if oxidized. Use in low dilution when applying to the skin, such as in bath or massage oils. Some sources claim Juniper is contraindicated in pregnancy and kidney disease. These sources are likely referring to an oil extracted from a different species of Juniper,Juniperus sabina, also called Savin. Tisserand states that the claims againstJuniperus communis are not supported by research, nor the specific oil's chemistry.

The suggested shelf life is 3 years.
