Lemon Balm Hydrosol
Our certified organic lemon balm hydrosol is steam distilled from the beautiful green leaves of the Melissa officinalis plant cultivated right here in the USA. It is a long-lasting, stable hydrosol with top floral notes and an unusual, although not unpleasant, middle note of cooked artichoke. It tastes lemony and spicy and is delightfully calming to the body without being overly sedative. Lemon balm hydrosol has been traditionally used by aromatherapists to soothe irritations both inside and outside of the body.
Benefits and uses
Topically, lemon balm hydrosol may be used as a calming agent for rashes, burns, eczema, poison oak or ivy, and other general irritations. Internally, it has been known to help with digestive irritation, stomach upset, and morning sickness. Lemon balm hydrosol also has immunostimulant properties, making it useful as a tonic that can help support general well-being.
Suzanne Catty, author of Hydrosols: The Next Aromatherapy, also suggests that lemon balm hydrosol might help as a supplementary approach to ADHD management for both children and adults. For children, she suggests combining 30 milliliters of lemon balm hydrosol in 1 liter of water and drinking throughout the day. For adults, she recommends doubling the dosage. Suzanne Catty also states that lemon balm hydrosol is gentle enough to use on babies. She suggests mixing it with German chamomile or yarrow hydrosol for help in treating cradle cap and clearing diaper rash.
Try using our lemon balm hydrosol as a room spray or in a diffuser to help make a very calming and soothing living space. Add our lavender artisan hydrosol for even more effect.
