Babassu Oil

Attalea speciosa

Description

This oil is extracted from the kernels of the Babassu Palm. Native to Brazil, this plant can grow up to 15 meters in height. Approximately 70% lipids, Babassu Oil is a clear, light yellow color when melted and a creamy, white color as a solid.

This oil is unrefined and cold-pressed. Babassu Oil acts and feels much like Coconut Oil. It has a slightly nutty scent combined with faint coconut and palm kernel aromatic notes.

Babassu Oil is interchangeable with Coconut Oil in most recipes as it is just as moisturizing and nourishing. It is an especially beautiful restorative agent for the skin and scalp.

The oil readily melts at body tempurature, such as when rubbed onto hands; it is soothing, acting as an emollient.

This oil comes from a nonprofit organization headed by predominantly female Babassu collectors as well as local, rural workers who use sustainable harvesting practices preserving Amazonian Babassu Palm forests. This organization also works to improve the quality of life for individuals and families living in rural areas.

Love it!
Just received this oil about 2 days ago. Today out of despiration I put some in a small jar for my personal use. This dry wintery air is making my skin hurt. I can't even imagine wanting to use it in a blend. I love it straight out of the jar! It's light and so soothing and leaves my skin feeling so soft. Wonderful on my face for nighttime. Smells wonderful also.
