Myroxylon balsamum var. pereirae

Peru Balsam from Aromatics

Peru Balsam

Myroxylon balsamum var. pereirae

Description

This resinous material is a thick molasses like substance with a warm, vanilla and cinnamon-like aroma. This is a viscous dark brown liquid. Traditionally, Peru Balsam has been used for treatment of wounds and skin issues as well as scabies, respiratory and skin issues. Warming, opening, and comforting, this oil reminds us of Vanilla oleoresin and can be infused into your carrier oil or essential oil blend. We also carry this in a Jojoba infusion for ease of use

Peru balsam resin is carefully obtained from the scorched & wounded trunk of the Myroxylon pereirae tree. It takes 3 different tapings of the raw balsam resin to make this product. Cloths are laid on the inner layers to collect the resin taking 15-20 days. The cloths are then boiled and pressed to obtain the resin. The 3 tapings combined, called the "raw resin", are then boiled, called the "purification process", to remove the residual water, leaving this beautiful resin.

It is insolubol in water and fatty oils, but is soluble in alcohol and somewhat in Castor oil. Peru Balsam crude has been known to have skin sensitiviy issues. However, when properly diluted it is an amazing support for all types of skin issues.

Peru Balsam is packaged in amber jars and as the resin is too thick for a dropper.
