Castor Oil

Ricinus communis

Our organically crafted castor oil is produced in India, where it is crafted by cold pressing the seeds of the Ricinus communis plant. The seeds, commonly known as castor beans, contain approximately 40-60% oil and are used throughout the world, dating as far back as ancient Egypt. Our castor oil is a pale yellow color and has a thick, viscous texture. Its aroma is faint and similar to a neutral-smelling oil such as vegetable oil. It is unrefined, hexane free, and rich in ricinoleic acid (over 85%).

Benefits and uses

Castor oil has incredible therapeutic benefits. It has anti-inflammatory, antifungal, antibacterial, and analgesic properties. It is deeply skin penetrating. Castor oil aids in digestion, easing inflammation of the gut when applied to the abdomen and liver. Castor oil also makes a good binding agent and lubricant. It is an efficacious emollient and helps skin retain its moisture. It can even be used as an intensive moisturizing treatment for hair. Add a few drops of your favorite essential oils to make your hair smell and feel amazing!

We suggest the following application as one approach to working with castor oil: fold a flannel cloth 2-4 times and add 3-4 tablespoons of castor oil. Use the cloth to apply the oil to the area you need to address. Add a heat source and allow the oil to penetrate for approximately 1 hour.

Note: Ricin, a toxin that naturally occurs in the castor bean is a deadly poison. Ricin is not transmitted through the cold-pressing process and the finished castor oil does not contain this dangerous substance.
