Peru Balsam Oleoresin
Myroxylon balsamum var. pereirae
Our organically crafted Peru balsam oleoresin is carefully obtained from the resin of the wood of the Peru balsam tree through a labor-intensive process that creates a thick, molasses like product. We love using Peru balsam oleoresin in wound care and skin challenges to help reduce the presence of unwelcome microbial activity.
The beautiful, resinous material tapped from the Myroxylon balsamum var. pereirae tree is a rich, dark brown color with a warm, vanilla and cinnamon-like aroma. It takes three different tappings of the raw balsam resin to make this product. Cloths are laid on the inner layers to collect the resin, taking 15-20 days. The cloths are then boiled in a purification process and pressed to obtain the resin. Traditionally, Peru balsam has been used for the treatment of wounds and skin issues as well as for scabies, ulcers, and respiratory issues. Peru balsam oleoresin reminds us of our vanilla oleoresin and can be infused into your carrier oil or essential oil blend. We also carry this in a jojoba infusion for ease of use. Peru balsam is insoluble in water and fatty oils, but is soluble in alcohol and somewhat in castor oil. Peru Balsam crude has been known to have skin sensitivity issues. However, when properly diluted it is an amazing support for all types of skin issues. Peru Balsam is packaged in amber jars as the resin is too thick for a dropper.
Emotionally and energetically, Peru balsam oleoresin is warming, opening, and comforting.
