With Halloween right around the corner, it is the perfect time to brew up some Halloween-inspired aromatherapy blends using beautiful fall essential oils.

15 Fall Essential Oils for Celebrating Autumn & Halloween

For many, Halloween is the centerpiece of autumn. It is a holiday celebrated with lots of pumpkins, candy, costumes, and fun scares. For others, autumn is steeped in ancient traditions and beliefs, celebrated with harvest festivals, symbolic fires, and communion with the dead. Regardless of how you plan to celebrate your autumn festivities, fall essential oils can help usher in the desired ambiance, inspire the mind and spirit, and provide physical and energetic support and protection.

Although there are many incredible oils to use to celebrate fall, we’ve compiled a list of 15 of our favorite fall essential oils to use for this magical time of year:

blood orange oil1. Orange Blood Oil (Citrus sinensis)

This sparkly, sweet, slightly woodsy essential oil is uplifting and purifying. Its antibacterial and immune-supportive properties make it perfect for soaps and body washes, inhalers, and air-cleansing diffuser blends. Blood orange helps to unblock and circulate stagnant energy as well as promotes courage when it is needed.

Cardamom Oil2. Cardamom Oil (Ellettaria cardamomum)

This fresh, spicy essential oil is so warming and supportive. It's great for using to lift spirits during seasonal changes, fortifying the immune system, and can promote mental clarity and balance when one is worrying excessively. Cardamom is also useful for supporting a healthy digestive system, helping with congestion, and reducing minor pain and inflammation.

Cedarwood Oil3. Cedarwood Oil (Juniperus virginiana)

This stunning, woodsy, earthy, slightly balsamic essential oil is stabilizing and grounding. When facing challenges, it can boost confidence, reduce anxiety, and encourage perseverance. Cedarwood is also an excellent choice for pain and inflammation management and for supporting clear breathing.

Cinnamon Bark Oil4. Cinnamon Bark Oil (Cinnamomum zeylanicum)

This warm, spicy, sweet essential oil is powerfully purifying as well as incredibly uplifting, restorative, and grounding. It is emotionally protective and can help inspire courage and improve morale. Cinnamon bark is also perfect for air-purifying diffuser blends and immune-supportive inhalers. Since cinnamon bark is a “hot” oil, we don’t recommend using it in topical applications.

Clove Bud Oil5. Clove Bud Oil (Eugenia caryophylatta)

This warm, spicy, sweet, fruity, woodsy essential oil is a beautiful choice for supporting the immune system as well as reducing minor pain and inflammation. It is so comforting to the emotional terrain and can help foster confidence and promote greater self-assurance. Clove bud is also immensely helpful for providing digestive support and makes a wonderful addition to belly oils intended to ease digestive upset.

Cypress Oil6. Cypress Oil (Cupressus sempervirens)

This smoky, balsamic, resinous, woodsy essential oil is incredibly purifying and supportive to many aspects of the physical and emotional terrains. Cypress provides excellent respiratory support, promotes healthy circulation, eases unwanted muscle spasms, calms excessive worrying, and can usher in peace and courage during difficult times and transitions.

Frankincense Oil7. Frankincense Oil (Boswellia carterii)

This fresh, woodsy, lemony essential oil is incredibly healing to both the physical and emotional terrains. Frankincense is a popular choice for skin care and can help heal scars and minor wounds. It is useful for reducing pain and inflammation relating to headaches and providing effective respiratory support. Frankincense, cherished for ushering in tranquility and peace, helps support reflection, introspection, and deeper meditation.

Ginger Oil8. Ginger Oil (Zingiber officinale)

This spicy, sweet, lemony, balsamic, woodsy essential oil is so warming and stabilizing. It is well known for providing soothing digestive support, reducing pain and inflammation, boosting the immune system, and promoting healthy lung function. Ginger can also help stimulate willpower and restore motivation.

Juniper Berry Oil9. Juniper Berry Oil (Juniperus communis)

This piney, woodsy, resinous essential oil cleanses and protects the mind and spirit. It helps provide emotional fortitude and ushers in peace during trying times. Juniper berry, often chosen when needing to improve circulation and reduce fluid retention, reduce lymph congestion, and promote healthy lung function, offers powerful immune support and excellent antimicrobial properties.

Orange Wild Oil10. Orange Wild Oil (Citrus sinensis)

This stunningly sweet, beautifully citrusy essential oil is so uplifting to the mind and spirit. It is one of our favorites for ushering in bright energy, positivity, and courage. Orange is also great for supporting the digestive system, especially when experiencing nausea. Its antibacterial properties and gorgeous aroma make it an excellent choice for adding to many purifying blends. Orange sweet oil is also a great option, with the same properties of wild orange, but an even sweeter aroma.

Patchouli Oil11. Patchouli Oil (Pogostemon cablin)

This earthy, sweet, peppery, herbaceous essential oil is one of the best oils for opening the mind and heart. It can heighten the senses, help one connect to their sensual inner being, and is incredibly balancing to the physical, emotional, and energetic terrains. Patchouli is also incredibly skin nourishing and healing, helpful for minor pain and inflammation management, and can even help boost a compromised immune system.

Rosemary ct Camphor Oil12. Rosemary ct Camphor Oil (Rosmarinus officinalis ct camphor)

This herbaceous, resinous, woodsy essential oil energizes and uplifts the mind, clears negativity, and promotes mental clarity. Rosemary ct camphor also helps with minor pain and inflammation management, eases muscle spasms, reduces microbial activity, and supports healthy respiratory function.

Siberian Fir Oil14. Siberian Fir Oil (Abies sibirica)

This sweet, piney, camphoraceous essential oil increases positive energy, promotes stronger self-image and improves acceptance when facing difficult situations and important decisions. Siberian Fir is prized for helping with respiratory support, pain and inflammation management, and easing muscle spasms.

White Pine Oil15. White Pine Oil (Pinus strobus)

This fresh, piney, woodsy essential oil soothes and calms. It protects from negative energy, encourages gentle self-reflection, and helps usher in restful, healing sleep. White pine is also a popular choice for supporting healthy lung function, reducing pain and inflammation, easing muscles spasms, and supporting a healthy immune system.

Hydrosols are also a great choice to use, especially if you are looking for a more gentle option for children and those with sensitive systems. They also make the perfect base for sprays, such as room and linen sprays.

We also recommend our chai co-distill hydrosol. Ginger, cinnamon, clove, cardamom, star anise, and black pepper are distilled together to create this deliciously spicy, sweet, and warm hydrosol that will surely get you in the perfect mood for all things fall.

How to Use Fall Essential Oils

    • Add a few drops of essential oil to a hydrosol, shake well, and spritz around a room or over your linens for a beautiful, therapeutic way to freshen up your favorite spaces with some of these beautiful fall essential oils.
  • DIY body care products

    • Create your favorite autumn-scented body butter, lotion, facial crème, body wash, bath scrub, and so much more.
  • Scented decorations

    • Add a drop or two of your favorite essential oil to your autumn or Halloween decorations to give them even more pizzazz. You can even sprinkle a few drops of essential oil on a costume for even more effect!
  • Monster-away spray

    • Have a little one that gets frightened easily, especially during Halloween? Make them a soothing spray that keeps the monsters away! We recommend using lavender hydrosol to soothe and calm, a few drops of sweet orange oil to uplift and bring brightness and light, and white sage hydrosol to clear away negative energy. If you want, sprinkle in a pinch of Epsom salt. Combine all ingredients in a spray bottle and shake well before spraying. Let your kiddo decorate the spray bottle for even more fun!
  • Tummy soothing belly oil

    • Sometimes we overdo our celebrations. If your kiddo (or you!) overate candy or indulged in a few too many pumpkin desserts, essential oils can help calm and soothe an upset tummy. For a quick tummy fix, try our Tum-Ease Blend. If you want to craft your own, try this recipe: Belly Digestive Oil.
  • Inhaler

    • Carry your favorite fall essential oil blend with you wherever you go. Place 15-18 drops on a small cotton wick or 18-21 for a large cotton wick. (Only 5-12 drops for children!)
  • Diffuser

    • Fill any room with your favorite aromas to enhance the desired ambiance as well as take advantage of all the therapeutic benefits of the essential oils! For a small diffuser, use 4-6 total drops of essential oil. For a large diffuser, use 8-10 drops.
