Plai (Central) Oil
Plai essential oil stands out from other members of the ginger family because it’s cooling (not warming, like other ginger oils). It has a fresh, herbal, spicy aroma that can help calm hot emotions and comfort the spirit. Plai oil’s cool touch can also comfort warm, puffy, sore areas. Plai includes the component terpinen-4-ol (also found in tea tree oil), making it an effective choice for natural cleaning. Our wildcrafted plai essential oil is steam distilled from the rhizomes of flowering plants in the beautiful rainforests of Thailand.
Benefits and uses
The rhizomes from the white flowering Zingiber cassumunar plant, with bright red, almost pinecone-like pseudostems, create a fresh, exotic, herbaceous, peppery essential oil. Along with helping to reduce pain and inflammation, plai essential oil is also a lovely digestive tonic and can help ease nausea and work to soothe irritable bowels. Plai essential oil is often more intense than other oils produced from plants of the ginger family. It is also cooling instead of warming like other oils from that family tend to be, providing welcome relief to hot, inflamed areas. Plai essential oil helps to reduce the presence of unwanted bacterial, fungal, and viral activity in a similar way as tea tree essential oil and can make a good substitute. Try formulating a blend with plai and sweet marjoram essential oils to help with minor infections, as they are both high in the chemical component terpinene-4 and even more powerful when paired together.
Emotionally and energetically, plai essential oil settles and calms. This essential oil is often used to cool anger or bring peace and calm to those experiencing situational anxiety.
