Essential Oil

Spikenard Oil

Nardostachys jatamansi

Spikenard essential oil is earthy, woodsy, sweet—and intensely relaxing for the entire system. Spikenard is a critically endangered species. After careful deliberation, we’ve decided to continue sourcing this wildcrafted essential oil from our distiller in Nepal, due to the painstaking, sustainable way they harvest portions of the roots (once every few years) in a rotation that doesn’t harm the life cycles of the plants. This supports a healthy ecosystem in the forest, which is carefully managed by the Nepalese government. Spikenard is a precious essential oil which deserves our respect.

Benefits and uses

This essential oil is on our sustainability watch list. We are incredibly fortunate to work with a distiller who is passionate about taking every measure to ensure that their spikenard essential oil is produced sustainably. Our distiller only distills oil from small parts of living plants that are intentionally harvested every few years, in a rotation, to ensure the continued life of a healthy, thriving ecosystem.

The roots of the Nardostachys jatamansi plant create a sweet, earthy, woodsy, slightly spicy essential oil. Spikenard essential oil is a beautiful oil to use when looking to reduce unwanted muscle spasms. This essential oil is also highly sought after when wanting to manage minor pain and inflammation, as it is incredibly soothing and comforting.

Emotionally and energetically, spikenard essential oil calms the heart, stabilizes the mind, and helps balance during emotionally turbulent times.
