Essential Oil

Petitgrain (Bigarade) Oil

Citrus aurantium var. Amara or Bigaradia

Fresh, citrusy, and sensual, petitgrain (bigarade) essential oil blends the familiar with a touch of the exotic. Its mild scent can relax the entire system, and is popular in natural perfumes and colognes. There are different varieties of petitgrain. “Bigarade” means the oil is produced from the bitter orange tree (which also produces neroli oil in its flowers, and bitter orange oil in the fruit rinds). Our certified organic petitgrain (bigarade) essential oil is steam distilled from the dark green leaves of bitter orange trees in the forests of Paraguay.

Benefits and uses

The waxy green leaves of the Citrus aurantium var. amara, also known as the Bigaradia tree, create a fresh, herbaceous, sensual, slightly bitter essential oil. Along with promoting balance and calm, petitgrain essential oil is a fantastic choice when looking to help ease and quiet unwanted muscle spasms. Try blending petitgrain essential oil with bergamot essential oil, orange essential oil, and Roman chamomile essential oil for an effective blend formulated to help reduce pain, inflammation, and spasms relating to conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome. This essential oil is distilled from the same tree that produces the fresh orange blossoms that are used to craft neroli essential oil. This cooling, uplifting essential oil is ideal for DIY room sprays or cleaning products as it can also help reduce unwanted microbial activity.

Emotionally and energetically, petitgrain essential oil soothes and calms. This essential oil can help bring us in close connection with our higher selves while also helping to facilitate a more magnificent creative outlook.
